It has been estimated that over ten million people (primarily in Germany, Russia and Cuba) have been given bio-oxidative therapies over the past seventy years to treat over fifty different diseases. In some cases, bio-oxidative therapies are administered alone, while in others they are used in addition to traditional medical procedures (such as surgery or chemotherapy) or as adjuncts to alternative health practices. Ozone (O3) is an energized form of oxygen with extra electrons. It forms the protective ozone layer around the planet, yet becomes a pollutant when mixed with hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxide from automobile and factory emissions. Because ozone is an effective bactericide and fungicide, over 2,000 municipalities around the world purify their drinking water with ozone. Hydrogen peroxide (H202) is made up of two hydrogen atoms and two oxygen atoms. A powerful oxidizer, hydrogen peroxide kills bacteria, virii and fungi. A 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide is commonly used to externally disinfect wounds. Higher concentrations of hydrogen peroxide are used extensively in the agricultural, food and chemical industries as a disinfectant, water purifier and bleaching agent. It is also a common ingredient in contact lens cleaners, eye drops and mouthwashes. Hydrogen peroxide has long been used medically as a disinfectant, antiseptic and oxidizer, but has only recently been found to successfully treat a wide variety of human diseases with a minimum of harmful side-effects. History; Source Bio-oxidative therapies have been around for a long time. They were first reported by Dr. T.H. Oliver in The Lancet in 1920 and since that time they have been studied in major medical research centers throughout the world. Hydrogen peroxide occurs naturally in rain and snow, from atmospheric ozone, and in mountain streams where rushing water is continuously aerated. Hydrogen peroxide is formed due to this rapid agitation, and kills harmful microbes when present. Mother's milk contains a high amount of H2O2, especially colostrum, the first milk secreted after birth, which activates the newborns immune systems, and key to many other metabolic processes. Under conditions of optimum health, H2O2 is produced by the body's immune system in whatever amounts are needed to quickly destroy invading hostile organisms. Function; Reasons For Use The use of hydrogen peroxide and ozone in medicine is based on the belief that the accumulation of toxins in the body is normally burnt up by the process of oxidation, a process wherein a substance is changed chemically because of the effect of oxygen on it. Oxidation breaks the toxins down and eliminates them from the body. Bio-oxidative therapies are used to provide the body with active forms of oxygen intravenously or through the skin. Once in the body, the hydrogen peroxide or ozone breaks down into various oxygen subspecies which contact anaerobic virii and microbes (virii and microbes that have the ability to live without air), as well as diseased or deficient tissue cells. It oxidizes these cells while leaving the healthy cells alone. When the body becomes saturated with these special forms of oxygen, it reaches a state of purity wherein disease microorganisms are killed, while the underlying toxicity is oxidized and eliminated. According to Frank Shallenberger, MD, author of The Principles and Applications of Ozone Therapy, bio-oxidative therapies affect the human body in the following ways:
- They stimulate the production of white blood cells, which are necessary to fight infection.
- Ozone and hydrogen peroxide are virucidal (virus-killing).
- They increase oxygen and hemoglobin disassociation, thus increasing the delivery of oxygen from the blood to the cells.
- Ozone and hydrogen peroxide are anti-neoplastic, which means that they inhibit the growth of new tissues such as tumors.
- They oxidize and degrade petrochemicals.
- They increase red blood cell membrane flexibility and effectiveness.
- Bio-oxidative therapies increase the production of interferon and Tumor Necrosis Factor, which the body uses to fight infections and cancers.
- They increase the efficiency of the anti-oxidant enzyme system, which scavenges excess free radicals in the body.
- They accelerate the citric acid cycle, which is the main cycle for the liberation of energy from sugars. This then stimulates basic metabolism.
- Bio-oxidative therapies increase tissue oxygenation, thus bringing about patient improvement.
Hydrogen peroxide is involved in all of life's vital processes, and must be present for the immune system to function properly. The cells in the body that fight infection (known as granulocytes) produce hydrogen peroxide as a first line of defense against invading organisms like parasites, virii, bacteria and yeast. Apart from conditions listed below, ozonated olive oil can also be used for fistulae, leg ulcers, bed sores, gingivitis, vulvovaginitis, bee stings, insect bites and other skin-related problems. Directions The five primary ways to administer medical ozone, sometimes in combination, include:
- Autohemotherapy (remove blood from the body, ozonate it, return it by injection into muscle or vein)
- Rectal insufflation (like an enema, but with ozonated oxygen)
- Ozone "bagging" body, except for head, or body part placed in a bag, then filled with ozonated air)
- Ozonated oil (used externally, and sometimes internally)
- Injection into/near painful joints.
The most common form of hydrogen peroxide therapy used by doctors is as an intravenous drip. For use at home, some individuals add a cup of 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide to a bathtub of warm water and soak for 20 to 30 minutes as the hydrogen peroxide is absorbed through the skin. Others drink a glass of water to which several drops or more of food or reagent grade hydrogen peroxide have been added. Although there have been reports of improved health with oral use, physicians like Dr. Farr believed that taking hydrogen peroxide orally could have a corrosive and tumorous effect on the stomach and small intestine and advised against using it. There is animal research supporting this caution. Instructions for oral use - use under supervision Food grade (35%) H2O2 is used internally since the common over-the-counter USP 3% H2O2 contains small amounts of chemical stabilizers and other impurities. It can still be used if food-grade is unavailable. A typical starting dosage is one ounce of 0.5% (1/70 dilution of 35%) H2O2 in water although some people find they need to start with less. As the peroxide contacts pathogens in the stomach it liberates free oxygen and some people experience slight nausea while the reaction is occurring. The dosage is increased by an ounce per day, up to five ounces on the fifth day, then finally up to 5 ounces 3 times daily for a week (or until disease is no longer present). The dosage is then tapered back down to nothing over a five week period. An alternate dosage regimen uses 3 drops of 35% H2O2 in at least 4 ounces (120ml) of water 3 times daily, which is then increased by a drop per dose, per day, up to 25 drops per dose in extreme cases. Candidiasis victims should start at one drop per dose, and build their tolerance gradually. Some find that the taste is bleach-like and unpleasant, and may wish to chase it with plain water or fruit juice. Citrus juices, in particular, mask the taste fairly well. Hydrogen Peroxide Bath Directions
- Add 6 to 8 ounces of food grade hydrogen peroxide (35%) to a hot bath. Over-the-counter hydrogen peroxide (3%) can also be used, but requires about 3 quarts for an equivalent amount. Up to 2 cups of food grade hydrogen peroxide can be used per bath, but this dose is usually reserved for active infection fighting.
- Stir the bath water to make sure the hydrogen peroxide is thoroughly mixed.
- Remain in the tub for 30 minutes and avoid getting water in your eyes.
- For individuals with sensitive skin it may be best to start with 2 to 4 ounces to see if there will be a negative reaction. If not, the remainder can be added to the trial bath or a full dose taken on subsequent baths.
- Once benefit has been established, a bath frequency of 3 times per week is common. Adverse reactions are rare.
Side-Effects Although both ozone and hydrogen peroxide are highly toxic in their purified state, they have been found to be both safe and effective when diluted to therapeutic levels for medical use. When administered in prescribed amounts by a qualified practitioner, the chances of experiencing adverse reactions to bio-oxidative therapies are extremely small. For example, a German study on 384,775 patients evaluating the adverse side effects of over five million medically-administered ozone treatments found that the rate of adverse side-effects was only 0.0007 per application. This figure is far lower than any other type of medical therapy. Be careful in handling high concentrations of hydrogen peroxide as they can irritate the skin and induce vomiting when ingested. |

(Reported in Time magazine, September 2002) Edward Lynch, of the Royal Victoria Hospital's School of Dentistry, has come up with a technique that allows saliva to help decayed teeth repair themselves naturally. The remedy that he discovered is ozone. The bad bacteria that cause decay are slow workers and ozone not only kills these bugs, but also primes the tooth surface so that remineralizing can begin. Human saliva is "supersaturated" with calcium and phosphates, which allow teeth to heal and cavities to close. But ozone poses a danger, as well, so this technology uses a method to ensure that the gas goes only into the hole, not the patient's mouth. A small rubber cap is fitted over the tooth and the hole is hit by a concentrated blast of ozone for up to 40 seconds. It is then suctioned out. So far, the treatment has been used in more than 100 test facilities around the world. The success rate is around 99%, and there are no reports of treated teeth re-decaying. For patients, the treatment will mean that for most cavities there will be no need for drilling - eliminating the noise, smell and discomfort that it can cause. 100% of patients who have had the treatment say they would want it again if they needed another filling. It can be used as a preventative measure as well: children will never need fillings if they continue treatment. Healthy teeth would need to be treated every six months or so, perhaps as part of a routine checkup. |

Some viruses are much more susceptible to ozone's action than others. It has been found that lipid-enveloped viruses such as HBV and HCV are among the most sensitive. While many doctors are reporting good success in treating Hepatitis with ozone, there have been limited studies performed. In a small trial of 8 patients in which post treatment follow-up information was available, viral loads by Polymerase Chain Reaction, taken at the onset of ozone therapy, then repeated following completion of the therapy, were compared. An average viral load reduction of 99.96% was achieved. At the onset of treatment 7 of the 8 patients also had elevated liver enzyme levels - SGOT (AST) and SGPT (ALT). Following ozone therapy these measures fell into the normal range. This pilot trial, without a blind control group and conducted in an offshore setting, must be viewed as anecdotal although fully consistent with the experience of many. |

In 50 cases of giardiasis which did not respond to conventional treatment, ozonated water was administered. Each enzyme performs a specific function without itself being consumed. For example, the digestive enzyme amylase acts on carbohydrates in foods to break them down. Free Radical (Free Radicals) A free radical is an atom or group of atoms that has at least one unpaired electron. Because another element can easily pick up this free electron and cause a chemical reaction, these free radicals can effect dramatic and destructive changes in the body. Free radicals are activated in heated and rancid oils and by radiation in the atmosphere, among other things. Gastritis Inflammation of the stomach lining. White blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury; this does not mean that there is an ulcer or cancer - it is simply inflammation, either acute or chronic. Symptoms depend on how acute it is and how long it has been present. In the acute phase, there may be pain in the upper abdomen, nausea and vomiting. In the chronic phase, the pain may be dull and there may be loss of appetite with a feeling of fullness after only a few bites of food. Very often, there are no symptoms at all. If the pain is severe, there may be an ulcer as well as gastritis. Genital Herpes (Herpes Type 2) A sexually-transmitted disease. Symptoms include itching, burning in the genital area and discomfort while urinating, and a watery vaginal or urethral discharge. A weeping vesicular (blister-like) eruption in the vagina or on the penis is an early sign. Giardiasis (Giardia) An intestinal tract infection caused by Giardia lamblia, a flagellate protozoa now common to much of the world. It is not normally a very serious infection, but nevertheless unpleasant. Gingivitis Inflammation of the fibrous tissues that surround the teeth. Granulocyte (Granulocytes) A mature white blood cell with cytoplasm containing granules. Hemoglobin The oxygen-carrying protein of the blood found in red blood cells. Hemorrhoids Varicose disorder causing painful swellings at the anus; piles. Hepatitis Inflammation of the liver usually resulting in jaundice (yellowing of the skin), loss of appetite, stomach discomfort, abnormal liver function, clay-colored stools, and dark urine. May be caused by a bacterial or viral infection, parasitic infestation, alcohol, drugs, toxins or transfusion of incompatible blood. Can be life-threatening. Severe hepatitis may lead to cirrhosis and chronic liver dysfunction. Herpes Simplex An infection, often recurrent, caused by herpes virus type 1 and 2. It causes cold sores around the lips and mouth, and also causes painful blisters on the genitals and in the pubic area, thighs, and buttocks. Immune System (Immune Response, Immunity) A complex that protects the body from disease organisms and other foreign bodies. The system includes the humoral immune response and the cell-mediated response. The immune system also protects the body from invasion by making local barriers and inflammation. The process may involve acquired immunity (the ability to learn and remember a specific infectious agent), or innate immunity (the genetically programmed system of responses that attack, digest, remove, and initiate inflammation and tissue healing). Interferon A protein formed by the cells of the immune system in the presence of a virus, etc. It prevents viral reproduction, and is capable of protecting noninfected cells from viral infection. Several kinds of interferon exist including alpha, beta, and gamma. Lesion (Lesions) Any damage to tissue structure or function; an abnormal change in body tissue caused by disease or injury. A scar is a lesion, as is cancer, a stomach ulcer or a pimple. Lipid (Lipids) Fat-soluble substances derived from animal or vegetable cells by nonpolar solvents (e.g. ether); the term can include the following types of materials: fatty acids, glycerides, phospholipids, alcohols and waxes. Liver (Hepatic) The largest and one of the most complex organs of the body, the liver is responsible for much of the metabolism of fats, proteins and carbohydrates. It is the site of much of the body's detoxification. It is connected very closely with digestion and the regulation of blood sugar, among many other functions. Found behind the ribs on the right side of the abdomen, it has many important functions such as removing harmful material from the blood, making enzymes and bile that help digest food, and converting food into substances needed for life and growth. Hepatic: Pertaining to the liver. Lung (Lungs, Pulmonary) Organ of the body, located in the chest cavity which is designed to bring oxygen from the air into the blood stream, while also expelling carbon dioxide and other waste gases out of the body. Pulmonary: Related to the lungs. Lymphoma (Lymphomas) Any tumor of the lymphatic tissues. Metabolism (Metabolic, Metabolize, Metabolizes, Metabolizing) The chemical processes of living cells in which energy is produced in order to replace and repair tissues and maintain a healthy body. Responsible for the production of energy, biosynthesis of important substances, and degradation of various compounds. Small Intestine (Small Bowel) The small intestine lies between the stomach and the large intestine. It is about 6 meters (20 feet) long and its primary function is to digest (break down) food and absorb nutrients (vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates, and fats). The small intestine makes up more than 70% of the length and 90% of the surface area of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Stomach A hollow, muscular, J-shaped pouch located in the upper part of the abdomen to the left of the midline. The upper end (fundus) is large and dome-shaped; the area just below the fundus is called the body of the stomach. The fundus and the body are often referred to as the cardiac portion of the stomach. The lower (pyloric) portion curves downward and to the right and includes the antrum and the pylorus. The function of the stomach is to begin digestion by physically breaking down food received from the esophagus. The tissues of the stomach wall are composed of three types of muscle fibers: circular, longitudinal and oblique. These fibers create structural elasticity and contractibility, both of which are needed for digestion. The stomach mucosa contains cells which secrete hydrochloric acid and this in turn activates the other gastric enzymes pepsin and rennin. To protect itself from being destroyed by its own enzymes, the stomach’s mucous lining must constantly regenerate itself. Stroke (Stroke-Type Event) A sudden loss of brain function caused by a blockage or rupture of a blood vessel that supplies the brain, characterized by loss of muscular control, complete or partial loss of sensation or consciousness, dizziness, slurred speech, or other symptoms that vary with the extent and severity of the damage to the brain. The most common manifestation is some degree of paralysis, but small strokes may occur without symptoms. Usually caused by arteriosclerosis, it often results in brain damage. Ulcerative Colitis (Colitis Ulcerosa) Ulceration of the colon and rectum, usually long-term and characterized by rectal bleeding or blood in the stool, frequent urgent diarrhea/bowel movements each day, abdominal pain. Vascular Relating to the blood vessels of the body. The blood vessels of the body, as a group, are referred to as the vascular system. Venous Pertaining to the veins. Virus (Viri, Viruses) Any of a vast group of minute structures composed of a protein coat and a core of DNA and/or RNA that reproduces in the cells of the infected host. Capable of infecting all animals and plants, causing devastating disease in immunocompromised individuals. Viruses are not affected by antibiotics, and are completely dependent upon the cells of the infected host for the ability to reproduce. White Blood Cell (WBC, White Blood Cells) A blood cell that does not contain hemoglobin: a blood corpuscle responsible for maintaining the body's immune surveillance system against invasion by foreign substances such as viruses or bacteria. White cells become specifically programmed against foreign invaders and work to inactivate and rid the body of a foreign substance. White blood cells are composed primarily of neutrophils, monocytes and lymphocytes. Lymphocytes are either T-cells or B-cells. T-cells (CD3 cells) are divided into T-helper (CD4 cells) and T-suppressor/cytotoxic (CD8 cells) cells. Yeast A single-cell organism that may cause infection in the mouth, vagina, gastrointestinal tract, and any or all bodily parts. Common yeast infections include candidiasis and thrush.
